Our history
Sol Semilla is now 30 years old. From a shared passion was born an idea that germinated, encouraged by the meeting of personalities with complementary experiences. First the sale on the markets, then the opening of the boutique rue des Vinaigriers in Paris which offers a seasonal, organic and gluten-free vegetable culinary offer since 2010.
In organic markets
Sol Semilla was born in 2010 but its story really begins in 1992. At that time, Jean-François, after having lived more than ten years in Peru, decided to
to present a selection of superfoods from the Andes or the Amazon at the organic markets in Paris. These travel treasures then laid the foundations for what would become the Sol Semilla adventure: producing with respect for ecosystems and local populations, while participating in a new, more virtuous and enlightened form of commerce.
The shop opens its doors
Jean-François & Charles set up in a former workshop on rue des Vinaigriers on the banks of the canal. The shop initially offered tastings and later became the first plant-based restaurant with superfoods in Paris.
Sourcing & product development
Alongside JF & Charles, Marie joins Sol Semilla and searches for the best possible superfoods in terms of nutrition, ecology and ethics. The company develops innovative recipes that are easy to use thanks to great teamwork.
The brand is certified Organic by Eco Cert & Vegan by Vegan Society.
A new breath of fresh air!
Today, the brand encompasses a range of superfoods, a restaurant, a boutique, an import channel and a recipe research and production workshop.
Sol Semilla is now supported and driven by a diverse and passionate team that continues to promote the company's purpose and founding values.
The adventure has only just (re)begun!
A word from our co-founder
“Inspired by a current of thought questioning the mode of consumption, the distribution channels and the agri-food choices of our modern societies, it quickly seemed necessary to me to go in search of happier alternatives.
This research led me in 1992 to create a company whose development would be linked to that of a world that would be, let's say... more harmonious and to imagine a mode of operation adapted to this evolution. This idea guided my choices as an entrepreneur.
Economic reality has sometimes been frustrating over the last 20 years, but deep down, it seems to me today to validate my initial idea. A fruitful idea, fortunately shared by a growing number of people.
This biodiversity of current activities (import, packaging, sales, catering, culinary creations, etc.) and future ones (opening of other places in Paris, a house in Peru, organization of stays with our producer partners, etc.) participates in the permanent evolution of an economic, philosophical and political adventure. The story continues!
